Woodhorn Museum, Northumberland

The Woodhorn Colliery Museum has become a top attraction in Northumberland over the years due to its many things to do and see for all the family.

It includes a large walk around museum taking you through the full history of the mine as well as local areas in an interactive way. Open the toilet door to get a surprise, crawl through the tunnel to see what can be found, walk through a mining house sitting room and loads more to keep you entertained on your visit to Woodhorn Museum.

Walk in and around the original buildings and see where the miners used to descend into the darkness of the earth. Another part of the museum of interest is the Northumberland Archives containing over 800 years of Northumberland history. The Woodhorn Colliery Museum also contains different art galleries capturing the mood through the North East’s mining years.

The museum also has a cafe area for food and drinks, so you can grab a coffee and sandwich whilst visiting. For the kids, you will find a playground and picinic area.

If you enjoy unique exhibits then the Woodhorn Museum will satisfy with its exhibition area. The museum regularly has exhibitions to be enjoyed such as Lego Brick Dinos, classic car displays, sci-fi shows and much more.

Adjacent to the Woodhorn Museum is another Northumberland gem – The QE11 Country Park. The country park is wonderful for the family to walk around and enjoy the views and wildlife and when you reach the north end you can take a narrow train through the park back to the Woodhorn Museum.

Brewers Faye restaurant is located at the north end the park containing indoor and outdoor play areas and of course food and drink.
