The North Pennines is home to a diverse wildlife, including at least eighty percent of United Kingdom’s black grouse population that resides on the moorland of this area. This particular part of Northumberland is hailed by UNESCO as one of its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1988 for its moorland scenery that is a product of centuries of farming and lead-mining.
