Hexham is a small market town located west of Newcastle upon Tyne and just south of the River Tyne. It has become known for its Abbey located centrally in the town. Hexham Abbey is a true gem that deserves a visit if you are in the area.

Looking over the market town the Abbey is imposing to say the least and will elicit a strong reaction due to its architecture and scale. The building dates back all the to AD674. Inside Hexham Abbey there is much to see such as the Crypt, the magnificent Bishop’s Chair and the Dark Age Cross.

Additionally, at Hexham Abbey you will find a visitor cente with an Abbey shop and a place to grab a hot cup of coffee.

Another place to visit in Hexham is The Forum Cinema is a community-run local cinema showing a selection of old and new movies.

If you are more into wildlife then Falconry Days Birds of Prey Centre has more than 70 amazing birds to see and interact with including owls, falcons, vultures, eagles and hawks. The centre has a picnic area, so be sure to take a picnic on your travels.

For local produce take a trip to the Farmer’s Market in the town centre on Saturdays twice per month. Here you will be able to purchase gorgeous local foods and gifts.
